5-Dehydroepiandrosterone (5-DHEA) is a 19-carbon endogenous natural steroid hormone. It is the major secretory steroidal product of the adrenal glands  and is also produced by the gonads and the brain. DHEA is the most abundant circulating steroid in humans.

DHEA has been implicated in a broad range of biological effects in humans and other mammals. It acts on the androgen receptor both directly and through its metabolites, which include androstenediol and androstenedione, which can undergo further conversion to produce the androgen testosterone and the estrogens estrone and estradiol. DHEA is also a potent sigma-1 agonist. It is considered a neurosteroid.

Carbon Monoxide Detector Signals Garage Doors to Open Automatically - A Florida man has developed a carbon monoxide detector that signals garage doors to open if CO toxins trapped inside the garage reach dangerous levels. John Vole spent more than 20 years developing the alarm after a news story about an accidental death inspired him to build a preventive device.

If CO levels inside the garage reach 150 parts per million, the carbon monoxide detector will sound an alarm within 20 minutes. The alarm prompts the electric garage door opener to open the door to help reduce toxin levels. Units also can be linked to an alarm panel to notify police and fire departments of a possible emergency.

Vole said placing an automatic door opening response system is important because a carbon monoxide detector placed inside a well-sealed home likely will not detect dangerous levels occurring inside the garage.

According to a three-year study released in 2000 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 5,376 deaths attributed to carbon monoxide poisoning in stationary vehicles from 1995-1997. Of those deaths, 665 were ruled accidental. Sixty percent of those accidental deaths occurred at home.

Is it really dangerous to use a cell phone on a plane -You know who you are. You leave your phone on during flights, maybe do a little text messaging and otherwise break rules about cell phone use on planes once the doors close for departure.

"This is an absurd rule. I never turn (mine) off. I may text or browse the Web, but I never talk on the phone," one CNN.com reader commented recently.

On the other side of the aisle are passengers who abide by the safety instructions and warnings, worried that cellular signals may indeed interfere with cockpit instruments.

Take those two camps and add passengers who say either way, listening to fellow travelers chatter on the phone would be annoying, and you have a heated debate -- sometimes literally in the airplane aisles.

Huffington Post editor Arianna Huffington's BlackBerry use got her in trouble with a fellow flier this month, and in December a dispute came to blows when a teen wouldn't turn off his phone as his flight taxied for takeoff.

A U.S. ban on airborne use of cell phones has been in place for 20 years because of concerns transmissions would interfere with cellular networks on the ground. While many airlines now offer Wi-Fi access via portable electronic devices from laptops to smartphones, cellular voice and data services on domestic airlines fall under that Federal Communications Commission ban.

The Federal Aviation Administration supports the ban, citing potential interference with aircraft communication and navigation systems. The FAA also advises airlines to make sure passengers turn off almost all portable electronic devices during critical phases of flight, below 10,000 feet. Airlines require electronics be turned off and stowed during takeoff and landing.

But airline passengers who have routinely neglected -- or forgotten -- to turn off their mobile phones without devastating consequences have to wonder, how dangerous can it be?

That turns out to be a tough question to answer, but those who've studied the rules sum it up as better safe than sorry.

The risk is small, "but why take that risk?" asked David Carson, a Boeing engineer who headed up a committee of aviation and electronics experts years ago to advise the FAA on the safety of Wi-Fi and cellular devices on planes.

He compared breaking the cell phone rules with not wearing a seat belt. "I could probably make a flight without a seat belt on and probably I'd be safe," Carson said.

Belfor Restoration Undercover

Belfor Restoration Undercover  - Sunday night, the CBS hit television show "Belfor Restoration Undercover Boss" featured the CEO of Belfor Restoration - Sheldon Yellen. I have watched "Undercover Boss" on most Sunday nights since it premiered after last years Superbowl game. While the format of "Undercover Boss" has become too predictable in recent weeks, Sunday's nights show featuring Sheldon Yellen showed a CEO who really seemed to put his money where his mouth was. Unless Yellen is the best conman of all time, he really seemed to care about the people who work for him at Belfor Restoration.

One thing that has changed about "Undercover Boss" since it's debut early last year has been the disappearance of bad employees at the companies featured on the show. I use to like to watch those bad employees and see their faces when they were forced to confront the leader of their company after their bad conduct was uncovered. More than likely, pressure from the companies not to show their problem employees lead to the disappearance of them in recent shows. Honestly, if the producers of "Undercover Boss" don't start varying their format soon - the public is going to lose interest in the show.

The thing that interested me the most about Belfor Restoration's CEO Sheldon Yellen was his life story. Instead, of being born with a silver spoon in his mouth - Mr. Yellen grew up in a very poor family, with the same financial problems that are faced by millions of other Americans. The emotions of CEO Yellen came through perfectly on television, especially when it turned out that some of the decisions he has made as Belfor's leader - ended up hurting employees rather than helping them. Apple Absent at CES 2011 Exhibition

Apple will not be there to enliven the event the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2011 in Las Vegas, United States. In fact, consumers have been awaiting the arrival of a new device from Apple, especially iPad 2, which is believed to be more compelling than the first version.
