Miss Nebraska Wins 2011 Miss America - Nebraskan Teresa Scanlan, 17, is the youngest winner of the Miss America crown in 90 years, reports the Associated Press. Scanlan beat 52 other women to win the crown of 2011 Miss America, broadcasted on ABC, Saturday night.
Scanlan is the youngest winner since Margaret Gorman of the District of Columbia won at age 15 during the pageant's first competition in 1951. Scanlan won a $50,000 scholarship. The competition was held at the Planet Hollywood casino and resort in Las Vegas.
Miss Arkansas Alyse Eady won $25,000 as first runner-up, and Miss Hawaii Jale Fuselier won $20,000 for third place.
For the first time since 2004, the competition was broadcasted on ABC. Brooke Burke from Dancing with the Stars and Chris Harrison from The Bachelor hosted the show.
The Miss America Organization is the country's largest scholarship provider for women, with each of the contestants guaranteed at least $3,000.
